Let's visit Main Street, U.S.A.!

"Here you leave today and enter worlds of history, discovery and ageless fantasy."

Main Street, U.S.A., a portrait of America at the turn of the 20th century with its combination of gas and electric lamps, horse-drawn streetcars and automobiles. It’s the gateway to our Disneyland Park – as it is at so many Disney Parks around the world with a Magic Kingdom-inspired style – where our Guests are transported to a small American town inspired in part by the place where Walt Disney spent several years of his childhood: Marceline.

Here, we can find shops, restaurants and of course, City Hall. When we take a closer look at this ‘land’, we can see many references to Walt’s life, The Walt Disney Company and American history.

Walt Disney was born on December 5th, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. Of course, it’s not a coincidence that we can find a manhole cover from the city of Chicago right in front of City Hall. If you pay enough attention, you’ll even see similar versions on Main Street, U.S.A. and throughout the Resort!

We have a tradition at Disney Parks to pay homage to the people who played an important part in the history of our company. Therefore, we can admire many different names on the windows of the buildings in Main Street, U.S.A., such as the names of the Imagineers who created the five lands of Disneyland Park which are located on the dentist’s window in Town Square. To highlight the importance of the show element in our Disney difference, all five of them have become dentists with the slogan: "Our business is making you smile"!

We have even more hidden details in Emporium, the biggest department store you’ll find at Disneyland Park! Behind two of the cash registers, you’ll see a painting of Main Street, U.S.A. in California and Florida, each representing their versions of Emporium. Take a closer look and you’ll see that each Emporium was founded 100 years before the actual opening year of each Resort, respectively 1855 and 1871. I also encourage you to pay attention to the red horse-drawn street car in front of Emporium in Florida… you might discover some of our favorite pals!

Before leaving you, I’d like you to have a closer look at the address of Walt’s – an American Restaurant that you can find on its façade. 1401 Flower Street actually is the address of Walt Disney Imagineering headquarters in Glendale, California.

We could easily spend an entire day in Main Street, U.S.A. to enjoy its beauty, its storytelling and the many details we can find throughout the land.
