At Disneyland Paris, Aladdin has long held a prominent place, whether in Disneyland Park or Walt Disney Studios Park. Each of them celebrates this iconic character and invites visitors to share his adventures through attractions and shows worthy of the Arabian Nights.
"The crew thanks you for choosing the company 'flying carpets'!"
Disneyland Paris did not wait until 2019 to invite real actors and real actresses to take part in the story of Aladdin. In Flying Carpets Over Agrabah, the Genie himself decided to shoot his own film at Toon Studio, one of the production areas of Walt Disney Studios Park. But is not Guy Ritchie who wants, and his set leaves visibly to be desired: unfinished and rickety decorations, wobbly scaffolding, and above all, he did not remove the lens cap from his camera! No matter, guests do not shun their pleasure to become actors of a day.
Once on the set, they are ready to live a real "blue dream", flying in one of the 16 flying carpets that the Genie has put at their disposal. To give the illusion of a trip through the Middle East of the Arabian Nights, he set up a backdrop that was used during the Hollywood Golden Age, representing a panorama from the famous Cave to Wonders. to the enchanting city of Agrabah. In flight, the actors have the possibility to control the movements of their carpet according to their place: those placed at the front can act on the altitude while those placed behind master the inclination. All this under the watchful eye of the Genie, who does not stop raving about them.
Connoisseurs will recognize the voice of Richard Darbois (Buzz Lightyear) in French, while the English version is provided by Dan Castellaneta (Homer, in the Fox series The Simpsons), who assumed the role of Genie in The Return of Jafar and the animated series Disney's Aladdin, instead of Robin Williams.
Le Passage Enchanté D'Aladdin
In the Disneyland Park, several attractions pay homage to the Disney Animation Classic, starting with Le Passage Enchanté d'Aladdin, located in Adventureland Bazaar, on the La Giraffe Curieuse boutique side.
This attraction opened its doors on December 9, 1993 in place of a covered passage of the bazaar where one could find at the opening of the park various windows of precious objects! It is now a pedestrian scenic route at which visitors can marvel at nine scenes of the film reconstructed miniatures. There are up to 35 characters, including 16 animated, such as Jafar, in the form of a cobra of nearly 2 meters 50 or the Genie, appearing as if by magic in the Cave of Wonders.
The decoration of the passage is not left behind with its sumptuous Persian tiles lit by richly decorated Moroccan lamps.
And so that the immersion is total, the musical atmosphere traces the greatest moments of the film, starting with the famous theme "This blue dream" and the elegant instrumental "Place du Marché" written by the great Alan Menken.
Le Pays des Contes de Fée
Walt Disney has a passion for models and miniatures, and many of Disney's attractions are based on this principle. This is the case of Le Pays des Contes de Fée in Fantasyland, which is inspired by Storybook Land Canal Boats, an attraction created in 1956 by Walt and his Imagineers and which he had the idea after a visit to Madurodam, a Dutch park presenting the biggest monuments of the Netherlands at scale 1/25.
In this attraction, inaugurated on March 26, 1994, visitors take place in boats bearing names of female Disney characters - such as Jasmine - to follow the meanders of a calm stream where they can admire many scenes representing fairy tales. and legends of international literature revisited by Disney magic.
At the heart of this journey, they find themselves confronted with the giant tiger's head carved into the stone that signifies the entrance to the Cave of Wonders. Penetrating inside, they discover its treasures, its riches, but especially, well hidden in the depths of the cave, the lamp so coveted, to the sound of the famous "Arabian Nights" of the animated classic.
Agrabah cafe restaurant
After so many emotions (see our articles from previous days), it's about getting strength. And what's better than the appetizing array of Oriental specialties that Restaurant Agrabah Café offers, which takes us back to the heart of Adventureland Bazaar.
Past the impressive Djinn painted at the entrance who offers us to achieve three of our wishes, visitors enter the heart of the famous "city of mystery and the enchantment", in a maze of alleys where we like to stroll for the pleasure of the eyes and taste buds. Kebabs, skewers, spicy dishes and oriental sweets: there is something for everyone!
And as for the romantic atmosphere, it is said that the Sultan, always eager for stories to entertain his beloved daughter, did not hesitate to offer a good meal to who would tell the story of his adventures. The walls of the city are thus adorned with many frescoes and other references to these fabulous legends, as taught by "L'Echoppe d'Aladin", in homage to the famous tale!
The most attentive visitors will note that the name of our hero has here only one "d", unlike the cartoon. This is because Adventureland Bazar opened in April 1992, more than a year before the film was released in France and the Imagineers have taken over the spelling that is found in the original tale. At the time, it was a real souk where visitors could get lost at leisure and discover different shops offering Disney souvenirs and oriental handicrafts made before their eyes.
It was transformed into a restaurant on December 23, 1999, but the names of certain spaces keep the memory of that time. This is also the case of "La Reine des Serpents", who once offered "exotic gifts", and now welcomes guests near the patio. The perfect place to relax with a good mint tea while the tinkling copperware hanging from the walls echoes the darbouka, the zurna and other oriental instruments that we feast on!
